Many buyers will glance at a few pages of a book before purchasing it: if the layout is not easy on the eye regardless of how captivating the content, chances are the book will be placed right back on the shelf. The overall design should allow the reader to flow through the pages with ease and enjoyment.

Typesetting

For instance, a book for children will have a larger font than a technical textbook. Similarly, a more formal font would be used for a theoretical book as opposed to a memoir. Careful attention must also be given to line- leading, justification and hyphenation settings. Elements such as footnotes, page numbers, and so on are incorporated so as not to detract from the body of the text. Typesetting requires precision and detail on every single page.

 

Interior layout design

An ornate design with borders and script fonts is suitable for some books, while a simple, clean layout is appropriate for others: consistency is key.
